Did you know that sugar can age you?

Yes, aging is part of growing older. But it’s accelerated by sugar. When excess sugar in your blood attaches to the collagen in your skin, wrinkles begin to appear. In addition to wrinkles, too much sugar in your diet can also increase acne, development of dark spots and sagging in neck and chin.

Of course, we need sugar in our diet and a body runs well on a diet that is 50% sugars. But that is when the sugars are good, slow-release sugars – the ones that nature makes, like fruits and vegetables.

In order to prevent early aging and getting wrinkles, it’s better to start getting rid of sugar early in life. However, it’s never too late to start removing sugar from your diet.

Some ways to do this includes:

  • no sweetened drinks (such as juice, sports drinks, lemonade or soda)
  • check your food labels on processed foods (roughly 80% of processed foods have sugar)
  • skip the cake and ice cream for dessert and enjoy some fruit with yogurt instead
