I will admit – for the longest time I had no idea what quinoa was. I didn’t even know how to pronounce it. It didn’t even appeal to me at first. But it was when I ate my first quinoa salad, and loved it, that I decided to learn more about this mystery food.

Quinoa is actually not a grain, like many people think. It is a pseudo-seed that comes from a plant, and it is full of protein and fiber!  In fact, it’s one of the only plant-based sources of all nine essential amino acids. Because you can only get these amino acids from your diet, this makes quinoa one of the best non-animal food sources of complete protein.

Needless to say, everyone should eat more quinoa!  There are so many ways to enjoy quinoa, whether it’s as a side dish, in a salad, dinner entree, or even for breakfast (instead of oatmeal). You can find SO many creative quinoa recipes on Pinterest that look so delicious!
